——

On June 16th, on a bike ride along the Mississippi River, I came up with the idea that I would take a trip down the river to raise money for Spare Key.

Exactly how I was going to do all that would play out over the weeks ahead and culminate in me launching a 24-foot pontoon with a garden shed on top of it from the Padelford Riverboat on August 27th a short distance from the Robert Street bridge in St. Paul, Minnesota.

How we were able to go from concept to reality in a little over two months is, in and of itself, a remarkable story.

That I was able to complete my journey down the river, through 10 states, nearly 1,700 miles and two months later is a story I will never forget.

Now, I’m sharing a compelling and comprehensive account of this trip and the people and places I met along the way. The personal experiences I had, the near premature ending of my journey multiple times, and of course, countless other surprises I have yet to share, will all be available in August with the release of my book: Hope on the River: An Unlikely Captain’s 1700-mile Mississippi River Journey on a Leaky Raft to Save his Nonprofit

The trip is done. We raised funds to keep Spare Key’s doors open. We got some exposure. We met amazing people, and we created new friendships every step of the way.
